Nintendo Switch Twitter/X Support End Date Announced, Statement Issued

No doubt, many Nintendo Switch users enjoy sharing their favorite screenshots and in-game videos to Twitter/X. However, those days are about to come to an end, as integration between the Elon Musk-owned platform and Nintendo’s hybrid console is to be discontinued soon.

Ending next month

According to a recent statement from Nintendo, X (formerly Twitter) integration will be available on the Switch until June 10. After then, it will be disabled. This includes the ability to “send friend requests to friends” from the system itself.

Services, such as posting images and videos to the social media site, will cease next month. According to the statement, this applies to the following: “Nintendo Switch Family, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch – OLED Model.”

While it doesn’t say specifically, the reason behind the discontinuation is likely due to Twitter/X increasing the prices on its API use last year. As a result, both Xbox and PlayStation stopped supporting the app, so it seems likely that Nintendo is finally following suit.

Currently, there is no official word on what’s happening with the anticipated next generation from Nintendo. However, a couple of days ago, company President Shuntaro Furukawa did say an announcement regarding the Switch’s successor will be made “within this fiscal year.”

However, details about the new console will not be shared at this year’s Nintendo Direct, which will be taking place in June.

As of now, if you have a Nintendo Switch and you enjoy uploading to your X profile, you have one month left until this feature is disabled for good.
