RoboCop Rogue City Release Date Trailer

RoboCop: Rogue City trailer revealed from the studio behind Terminator: Resistance

Aside from a critically panned reboot, the RoboCop franchise hasn’t received much love over the past two decades. Fortunately, that’s changing, and a new video game, RoboCop: Rogue City, has been announced. Teyon, the studio behind the surprisingly competent Terminator Resistance, will be helming the cyborg crimefighter’s adventure, and Nacon will be publishing.

RoboCop: Rogue City release date, story, and more

RoboCop: Rogue City will “feature a new RoboCop story” that is “based on the first three films in the original RoboCop universe,” according to a press release. Let’s face it, though, Teyon will completely ignore RoboCop 3 (except maybe the jetpack), as they should.

The trailer gives scant details on what RoboCop: Rogue City’s plot will entail. Old Detroit is in danger once again from “crime,” and there’s only one thing that can save it: part of a brain, some intestine, and a few organs wrapped in a powered exoskeleton. That’s right, everyone’s favorite partial amnesiac, sometimes psychotic, cyborg cop is back in action.

Fortunately, it is confirmed that we will get to play as RoboCop himself instead of just some regular Joe in the RoboCop universe. That means we can guess some of the gameplay possibilities. The game will almost undoubtedly be first-person. Teyon’s previous title, Terminator Resistance, was played from that perspective, and the RoboCop movies have several scenes where we see things from RoboCop’s eyes.

We’ll likely have access to his internal targeting system that includes an integrated zoom. It can be assumed we’ll get to use both the iconic Auto-9 and his retractable interface spike for weapons. The big question we have right now is how will Teyon handle RoboCop’s trademark slowness. It’s not particularly thrilling to saunter around in a video game, even if you’re playing as a powerful cyborg. Perhaps RoboCop will finally gain the ability to sprint!

We’ll find out more about RoboCop: Rogue City as we approach the release window of 2023.
